Service Tax Registration Online Procedure




As per the Rules framed by the Indian Govt., every Service Provider has to mandatorily apply for Service Tax Registrationif the Value of Services expected to be rendered by him in a financial year is more than Rs. 9 Lakhs. However, if the Value of Services rendered in a financial year is less than Rs. 9 Lakhs p.a. – the Service Tax Registration is optional at the option of the Service Tax Payer.

How to apply for Service Tax Registration Online


Here 3 simple steps to apply for Service Tax Registration. Kindly follow that
  • Register online with ACES(Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax)
  • Fill-up online Registration application form(Form ST-1)
  • Submit relevant supporting documents for verification by post or in person.

1.Register online with ACES

Register with ACES to create user name and password online
b. Select “Service Tax” tab (upper right corner of the webpage)
c. Login page opens(see image below)

d. Below the login box, click on “New Users to Click Here to Register with ACES
e. Enter details in the online form (see image below)

f. Password will be sent to the Email id given in the form.
g. After registration with ACES, the user will have a username and password.



2. Fill-up online Registration application form(Form ST-1)

b. Select “Service Tax” tab (upper right corner of the webpage)
c. Login page opens
d. Login with username and passwordcreated in Step-1above.

e. Click on REG menu
f. Click on Fill ST-1
g. Blank FORM ST-1(Application form for Service Tax registration) will open (see image below)

3.Submit relevant supporting documents for verification by post or in person

a. Relevant Supporting documents to be submitted within 7 days of filing registration application
b. Documentation(Self Attested copies)(Authority: CBEC F.No:137/22/2012-Service Tax (Part-I) dated 28-2-2015)

1). PAN Card Copy
2). Photograph of the person filing the application
3). Proof of identity of the person filing the application
  •  PAN Card
  • Voter Id / Passport Copy / Aadhaar Card / Driving License / Id issued by CG / SG / PSUs
4). Proof of possession of the premises to be registered
  • Lease Deed / Rent Agreement / Allotment letter from Govt. / Tax Pass book (own property)/ NOC from legal owner.
5). Details of Main Bank Account
6). Certificate of Incorporation + MOA + AOA/ Partnership Deed / Bye-laws
7). List of Directors
8). Authorization by the Board of Directors / Partners / Proprietor for the person filing the application.
9). Business transaction numbers obtained from other Government Departments or Agencies
  • BIN No. (Customs)
  • IEC Code (DGFT)
  • VAT Number (State Sales Tax
  • CST Number
  • Company Index Number (CIN)
  • Others, if any which were issued prior to filing the ST registration application.


Revocation of Registration

The Service Tax Registration shall be revoked in the following circumstances:

  • The premises are found to be non-existent or not in possession of the assessee.
  • No documents are received within 15 days of the date of filing the registration application.
  • The documents are found to be incomplete or incorrection any respect.
